I parked it on the street because no matter how important I think my car is my lady friend has her spot, and I won't use it except for pictures and maintenance. Since the Elise is sold, I'd rather keep it safe and sound at night tucked away in the garage too. I don't think the Viper attracts as many people to it as the Elise, but I do think the Viper does exactly what its moniker does. The Lotus screams for attention, every angle looks ridiculous, the color is loud, the four cylinder supercharged engine screams at 30 MPH from 4,000 RPMs and it rips up corners. The Viper sits and waits, you come to it out of fascination. The Viper decides if you live or die. Also here are some more pics while it's sunny out.
My friend is headed over this way and we are going to take both cars downtown for dinner and see which one gets more attention. Also, here is some Golf 'R all mudded it up so it doesn't feel to left out.

Still jelly. What's your friend's car?

He has an STI, but he is going to take the Lotus out for one more night

I went to a car show with Brian Silvestro once, and parked my V12 SL600 next to his Fiesta ST. The Fiesta got significantly more attention.
Funny how these things work out. Ill be interested to see which gets more attention, for sure.

Don't know if you read this comment when I put it up a few months ago, but bear with me:
Spring 2006, walking down Prince Street in SoHo, on my way home. There's a Lotus Elise, electric green, parked on the street, lid off. A guy is explaining the car to two other guys, clearly holding forth at great length. There's what I assumed was his girlfriend in the passenger seat. And she was stunning, model good looks. I stopped to look at the car, of course, and she caught my eye. She mouthed the words: "it's mine."
How great was that?

My lady friend hoons the hell out of my cars. One of my friends who moved away texted me that his buddies shot a video of my Elise flying up the main street of my town. My lady was driving, and her friend was the passenger. I can't like your comment enough. +10 stars

You're story about the belt ripping off scared me out of doing anything with this car but selling it and telling the buyer to get the 30k mile service done there is a belt noise and the techs at Lotus Atlanta said it wasn't a big deal.

That was the best ... I remember looking at her and thinking either Paz Vega or Penelope Cruz - she was that hot. And she owned a Lotus. But my girlfriend was waiting at home for me to make dinner.

The one you have is better than the one you might. Except for cars. Own all of them.

She's put up with me for 10 years, and a little more. As my mom pointed out, "that's a record."

Some of my favorite things to read about on here are people getting their dream rides. Great inspiration—hope I'll be making a post like this someday.

Very jelly...
Enjoy the crap out of it man, but don't do anything stupid. We, being the car community, can't afford to lose a member of the community, or a precious Viper!

Well, I've never driven one so I don't know how much I'd actually like it, but if I had to pick it would be a late 80's Porsche 930 cabriolet in Grand Prix white with black fuchs wheels. I know the drop top kills chassis rigidity, but I find them so utterly compelling I can't resist. Unfortunately, their value has been rising meteorically since they're collector cars now—not a fun experience for a 20 year old. We'll see what happens. At least there will always be cheap previous generation M3s.

Never buy a car because of chassis stiffness or extra hp unless you plan on racing it. If you love that car, buy it. You will be happier in a convertible/t-top/roofless/geo metro because you long for it specifically. I mean have you seen the Geo Metro. Hoon x10.

Wise words. I'm definitely not a racer and I legitimately considered picking up a convertible geo just for the summer this year because I love convertibles so much haha

Should have said - nice Viper. I normally don't like blue cars, but that shade is great.

Lady friend
Viper
Upgrading to Viper from Elise
Well, I guess there's just no avoiding the burning passionate flames of jealous hatred I'm gonna haveta have for you now. I can feel them licking my insides and turning them black and bitter already. Yep. No avoiding it.

I think I like blue cars, my S2k was blue, Elise and now this. My lady pointed that out to me.

I admit I'm a n00b when it comes to Vipers, but isn't the coupe version the GTS and the RT version the topless (don't want to get into a debate over the definition of a convertible) version? And, more important, I know this car is new, but please keep everyone posted on how practical of a daily driver the coupe version is. I was seriously tempted to buy a (topless) RT model, but eccentricities like the early ones having snap-on windows convinced me of otherwise.

My '87 300D was dunkelblau - dark blue. Hated it, but I got it for around 8 grand off the sticker, so there it was. MB Tex instead of leather, so they had trouble selling it until I came along.

Did you just say this Viper will be parked on the street all the time?
![]() 01/24/2015 at 17:45 |

You are definitely right for Gen I and Gen II. In 2003 with the Gen III the R/T and GTS nomenclatures went away and everything was called SRT-10. The first year the coupe was released for Gen III was 2006. When you hear people say R/T, you know they are talking about Viper from 1992-2002. If they mention GTS, you know it can only be a Gen II from 1996-2002.

Once the Elise is shipped off the Viper will have it's garage space. This is outside my house right now. I am imaging a 16 year old crashing into all three of these and me calling USAA for a 130,000$ claim.
Me:" A 16 year old just hit all my cars, they exploded and burned to the ground."
USAA Insurance:"F**k off."

Haha ok. You had me worried for a minute. How's the getting in and out compared to the Elise?

Well, the belt problem on the SL was the tensioner breaking off. I just managed to make it 20 odd miles before I pegged it on the highway and shouldnt have, causing too much loss in tension when I let off. The SL also has 99k miles, 80k were actually pretty hard too. More than most other R129s will see. Being 18 years old also contributed.
I would love to see updates on using the SRT10 as a DD, and how that works out. Outside of gas prices, I had to DD the SL for a month once, and I had no problems. Gas hurt me bad, it was back when gas was around $4 a gallon, but otherwise, no hiccups, car always started, did what I needed it to do. I have a lot of respect for the Vipers, but if I were in the same position, the Lotus might win simply because of my commute. Saying that, I DD a Magnum RT, but the MDS means Im averaging low 20mpg or even a little higher.

Hey, sorry to give it away but I am your secret senna. I had some Lotus stuff shipped to you that you may or may not want.
One was a Lotus flag that should of came in the mail by now according to the tracking. The other were Lotus valve stems that you probably don't want anymore haha. I'll get you something else if you want.

No way man! Thank you for everything, I have pics and I was going to make a post to thank I've just been slow at it. I'm keeping the flag to always remember the car, and the caps are going off to the new owner. Seriously though, thank you!

Glad you got everything! Can't believe you got a Viper and had an Elise, that is super Jalop!!!
